What is the difference between pampering and caring for a child?

Sometimes it is difficult for some parents to differentiate between pampering their child and giving him/her adequate care and attention. When is it appropriate to describe what they did as pampering or as care and attention? Some studies suggest that pampering is generated as a result of the existence of justifications that parents rely on pampering their child to the point that they do not take any educational measures that are appropriate for the situation. Several justifications are mentioned as reasons that the father and mother cling to in pampering their child and treating him/her with excessive kindness, and turning a blind eye to holding him/her accountable: -

Among them; Because he is sick, or because he is still young, or because he is the only one, or because he is alone among his sisters, or because she is the only girl with her brothers, or because he is the youngest among his brothers (the last of the bunch) or vice versa because he is the eldest among them, or because the father, for example, does not want to repeat the cruelty that was inflicted on him by one of his parents, or because the child is an orphan, or an attempt to compensate for what the father or mother suffered when they were young..

These are the general justifications: Although some of them are logical, they may push the parents towards leniency and giving up control and guidance.

While (consideration) is the initiative to meet a need that the child requests in his words or his actions, and if he does not respond, it may lead to harm and deprivation of his natural right. Among the negative effects of depriving the child of care and attention:

First: The child resorts to quarreling and treating his brothers and others harshly and violently.

Second: His looks are strange, as if he is searching for something he is missing.

Third: He gets attached to every person he feels is cute and nice to him, even if they are strangers.

Fourth: He resorts to mischief and corruption whenever he is alone.

As for the negative effects that result from excessive pampering, they are many, the most important of which are: -

First: dependence and reliance on others, so he depends on his mother, then on his family, then on others in most of his life affairs.

Second: He evades responsibilities due to his inability to manage situations that require taking responsibility, so he runs away from school and escapes from forming friendships and relationships with strangers, and may fail in any social task assigned to him.

Third: Selfishness and love of domination and possession, so sometimes he clings to something he finds or sees and quarrels with everyone who prevents him.

Fourth: His weakness makes him unqualified to make decisions, and he gets angry with everyone who decides on his behalf to escape the consequences of the decision.

Fifth: Chaos and disorder; because he is not used to discipline and order.

Sixth: Boredom, moodiness, and his inconsistency in his decisions and choices, which causes him problems with others.
