You Always Have a Choice
12:24:19 2025-09-03 6285

Remember, you are not forced to do anything. You can choose to do whatever you see as important enough to be worth your effort. Your responsibilities are not an unbearable burden nor are they unavoidable. You should think about the positive results of your actions, the reasons that motivate you to go to work, and the reasons that make you take care of your household affairs.

How many times have you complained inwardly: “Why do I have to do this?” Do you realize that you are not obligated to do it at all? As long as you are not in prison, you are not forced to do anything—you choose what you want to do.

You may wonder: “What difference does it make? Do I have to iron the clothes, or do I have the choice to iron the clothes? In both cases, it’s still work.”

There is a huge difference. It is the difference between doing something because it has meaningful value for you, and doing something because you are compelled to. Ironing, for example, is a choice you make because you care about cleanliness and want to appear well-groomed, or because you iron for your family out of love for them.

And every time we iron, we do it because we want to. Is anyone forcing us? No. When you see all the options before you, you can then make the choice you truly want.

In surveys about life satisfaction, it was found that those who expressed a sense of autonomy and making their own decisions felt three times more satisfied than those who were the opposite.
