Endocrinologist Dr. Anastasia Popovich announced that it is never recommended to tilt the head back and block the nostrils with cotton in the event of nosebleeds and wait.

In an interview with Gazeta.Ru, the expert notes that many advise tilting the head back, blocking the nostrils with cotton, and waiting for the bleeding to stop. But this is the wrong way, because the blood will flow into the pharynx and from there to the esophagus and can lead to nausea. Therefore, it is advised to refrain from this method and follow another.

She says, "In the beginning, the nose must be carefully cleaned to remove clotted blood. After that, pressure should be placed on the flexible part of the nose and sitting vertically with the head tilted slightly forward. This position helps reduce bleeding and avoid nausea."

According to her, cooling can be used in the event of nosebleeds, by placing a bag containing ice over the nose, or any substance from the refrigerator, after wrapping it in a towel.

And she says: "If the bleeding is strong and does not stop within 15 minutes, and a feeling of shortness of breath or headache appears, then medical assistance should be sought."

According to her, if the bleeding is repeated at certain times or from time to time, the reason for this condition must be understood. Because there are major causes of nosebleeds: very dry air, colds or allergies, severe sneezing or blowing your nose, nose cleaning with your fingers, and nose injuries. If a person suffers from poor blood clotting or high blood pressure, the bleeding will be severe.

The doctor points out that some lotions and medications can cause nosebleeds.

She says, "Nosebleeds can be caused in people with type 2 diabetes who take metformin. Because this drug affects platelets in the blood and makes them not function properly. It can also be caused by blood thinners, nasal sprays, and other medications." Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Analgin or ibuprofen, and anti-platelet drugs such as aspirin also cause nosebleeds.
