The engaged couple face some obstacles that may be difficult for one or both of them to overcome peacefully, which leads to the failure of the engagement and the annulment of the contract between them. There are many reasons that may stand behind the end of the engagement; some of them are psychological, some are social, some are economic, and others.
We mention seven common reasons that may lead to the failure of the engagement, which are:
First: The change and reversal of standards. In the past, many were keen for the girl in their life to have high morals, religiosity, honor, and a good reputation. However, these standard priorities for some have been reversed and changed, and we find some of them looking for fame, money, and a prestigious job.
Second: The weakness of some girls' ability to endure and adapt to poverty or lack of money. Some girls today do not prefer a suitor if he is poor or has limited income. Some of them rush to break off the engagement when they feel that they will face a difficult life financially, especially if they have distinctive qualities in terms of beauty and wealth, and find encouragement from their family, so they ask to break off the engagement and do not want to marry this young man!
Third: Not accepting the idea of restricting her freedom. Some girls are accustomed to acting freely, so they are unable to submit to the behavior and desire of their partner in their life. Since they feel an excessive desire for independence, they interpret these restrictions as confinement, and that they are imprisoned by this type of relationship that limits their freedom. They then break off the engagement to escape such a marriage, until they find a suitor who will provide them with absolute freedom in everything they want!
Fourth: One of the engaged couple may be moody, hesitant, or unsure of himself in choosing, and may quickly change his decisions from one moment to another, especially when it comes to fateful decisions such as marriage.
Fifth: The difference in cultural levels, when her culture is high and her husband's culture is shallow, meaning when there is no cultural equivalence between the two parties, it leads to the girl requesting to break off the engagement and not continue with a husband with a weak culture.
Sixth: When the fiancée discovers that the husband is stingy, she thinks that he will make her live in poverty and a dry life, and for this reason she will be deprived of many of the blessings that she is accustomed to, and for this reason she prefers to break off the engagement rather than continue with this type of man.
Seventh: Excessive criticism of the girl's personality is considered unbearable for some girls, and for this reason, in their view, a fiancé who criticizes a lot is annoying. If this is his situation during the engagement period, what will the situation be after marriage?! That is why she decides to break off the engagement, as it is better for her than living in the shadow of a man who is looking for her small mistakes.
