Stubbornness - in some of its cases - has a psychological cause. If it is corrected, then this condition in the individual is corrected automatically. Here, it is necessary for parents and specialists in educational matters to deal positively with the child’s spirit in order to give him the necessary tranquility and stability. We mention some of the most important tips:
First: Respect and love: The child’s educational structure must be based on this foundation, and he must be respected. Many recommendations were received from the Messenger, may Allah (PBUH and his progeny), emphasizing the necessity of respecting the child. Today, specialists in educational affairs emphasize this point to a great deal, and add to that the necessity of combining respect with love.
Second: Understanding his feelings: When a child expresses insistence and stubbornness, especially at a time when he is right to rebel and make excuses; there is no escape from listening to him, understanding his feelings, and complying with his requests, and this is what will make him comfortable and push him to be rational in presenting his desires. The truth is that when a child feels understanding and response from his parents, he tends to become calm and calm.
Third: Encouragement to speak: It is possible to engage in a conversation with the young child, but in a manner that he understands, in order to discover the reason that drives him towards stubbornness, and what is the reason for not listening to the words of the parents? What is the reason for his discomfort? Why does he act like this?
The child usually speaks openly and honestly about his problem, and this same conversation is considered for the child as an outlet for what is troubling him. This, on the one hand, and on the other hand, leads us to know the reason for the deviation of his behavior, and this is what makes us more able to take the correct position towards it.
Fourth: Paying attention to his personality: It is one of the important issues that opens the door to understanding between the child and the parents, which can be invested in in some circumstances for the benefit of both the child and the parents. Dealing with the child must be rational and thoughtful, far from mocking his feelings.
Fifth: Ignoring: Finally, if all the above-mentioned steps fail, the method of ignoring can be used. When the child is stubborn, he will even refrain from eating, and then the parents should not insist on his obligation to eat. The interest may sometimes require leaving him alone to scream as he wants and make as much noise as he wants, and when he finds that the path is closed to him and he cannot pressure his parents in this way, he is forced to turn to another path. That is, trying this method several times is of great benefit and suppresses such agitations deep down.
