Your son craves and seeks your acceptance and love no matter how old he is, and regardless of whether he admits it or not. Perhaps you admire an actor or an artist. Now, think for a moment about the qualities you respect in this person. What made him succeed? What are the things that you particularly like?
You may discover that there are many ways for a man to be a good man, and success has more than one definition. Successful, complete and respected men are not all the same and your son needs the freedom and support to become the man he is meant to be. This is easy to say, but the difficulty lies in the application, especially if your son's goals and values in life are different from your goals and values.
Every father and mother dreams about his children, but the parents must leave their children in the end to live their own lives. You can let your son know that you trust him even when you don't agree with his choices. Your son will overcome many of the challenges he faces when he knows that you trust him, that you trust the person he has become.
