A recent study showed that nearly five billion people, more than 60 percent of the world's population, use social media.

This represents an increase of 3.7 percent compared to last year, digital consultancy firm Kepios calculated in its latest quarterly report.

There is a significant disparity between regions of the world, with only one in 11 people in East and Central Africa using social media. As for India, which this year officially became the largest country in the world in terms of population, the ratio touches one in three people.

The study also showed an increase in the amount of time users spend on social media by an average of two minutes, to become two hours and 26 minutes per day.

Here too, big differences are recorded, as Brazilians spend an average of 3 hours and 49 minutes a day on social media, while Japanese spend less than an hour.

On average, each user has accounts on seven social networks.

And four of the most popular applications among users worldwide are owned by the Meta network, which are WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger.

As for China, it is the origin of three of the most popular applications in the world, which are WeChat, TikTok, and Douyin (the version of TikTok for users in China).

The list of the most popular social platforms also includes Twitter and Telegram.
