A young man who maintains relationships with bad companions, associates with them, and frequents their circles in society cannot protect himself from a bad reputation, even if he is able to control his will and protect himself from drowning in sins and transgressions, because a bad reputation is a reality that cannot be avoided by anyone who associates with disobedient, corrupt people.
The company of a bad companion, an aggressor, a slanderer, and a traitor, will not only lead to corruption of morals and a bad reputation during the period of friendship, but its negative effects remain even in the period of estrangement, meaning that a young man cannot remain safe from the evil of a bad companion even if he separates from him.
The one who slanders you during the period of friendship under the slogan of love and sincerity and falsely accuses others for what is in your interest will inevitably slander you during the period of estrangement under the slogan of hatred and revenge and will commit crimes, perhaps to harm you.
The bottom line is that the one who is known for his sins, misdeeds, bad character, and betrayal is not worthy of companionship and cannot be trusted, because such a person will quickly corrupt his friend and tarnish his reputation among people. And if this person, during the period of friendship, benefits from his bad deeds and cunning methods for the benefit of his friend, he will resort to One day, during the estrangement, he escalated his practices against his friend with the aim of harming him.
There is another type of friendship that Islamic teachings rejected, and the pure Imams (peace be upon them) warned Muslims against, which is the companionship of a flatterer. The sycophant is the person who utters glorification and veneration out of fear and greed and contrary to his inner belief and true opinion, and this is what makes him lose his moral character and human value.
The sycophant tries to show his wrong action as correct and proper, and insists on convincing others of this so that they trust him, in an attempt to reduce the severity of the shame and scandal that befell him and to cover up his baseness and faults to some extent.
Hence, the young man must stay away from sitting with, interacting with, and being friends with familiar people, and he must not forget that he inevitably suffers from the nature of flattery if he is the companion and companion of the flatterer.
The young man should know that flattery is tantamount to moral suicide and the annihilation of the social personality. The one who cares about his happiness cannot adopt this reprehensible character, because he knows that this will lead to the disappearance of his personality.
