There is something that really pisses me off, as I've seen many parents do; A child enters the door of the house returning from school or from a picnic outside, and the first greeting he receives from his father or mother is: (Take off those dirty shoes of yours), or (Go do your homework now before you do anything else.(
Once, a friend of mine came back from school with a big bruise on her head, because she had fallen in the school gym. It was in the past when a student was allowed to leave the school alone after an incident like this. When this friend of mine entered the door, her mother was busy cleaning the kitchen floor. The mother looked at her and furrowed her eyebrows and said to her: (You cannot enter the kitchen, the floor is wet).
How do these children feel that their parents love them? The mother and father greet the grandparents, the friends of their children, and even the postman as well with more cordiality than their greeting to their children.
Another alternative that some parents do is to completely ignore the children when they come, as if they were just a piece of furniture. This is equally bad. Giving a child no attention is as bad as giving him negative attention (a polite term he used instead of "yelling at him".)
It's normal for everyone to be in a rush at breakfast during school days, but you won't need much time to be friendly with your kids. Indeed, anything you say or do that makes children frown less while combing their hair or eating their breakfast; worth the effort, isn't it?
Is it hard for you to give them a friendly smile or even a hug (unless they're old enough to let you, of course!)? These are just simple things, but they make a big difference with your kids; all they want is to feel that you are happy to see them.

And if their shoes are really dirty and you've just cleaned the kitchen floor (someone might wonder why you'd do that in the first place when you know kids come in with dirty shoes), you can tease them until they stop and give them hugs and kisses later as a reward for their cooperation.
