eventive (adj./n.)
A term used by some LINGUISTS as part of the GRAMMATICAL or SEMANTIC analysis of a SENTENCE in terms of CASES or participant roles. An eventive utterance (‘an eventive’) usually refers to an element which expresses an action, accompanying a verb which is relatively ‘empty’ of meaning, e.g. The invasion happened in 1944 (eventive subject), They are having a row (eventive object).
