-ed form
A term used in English GRAMMATICAL description to refer to the simple past-TENSE FORM of the VERB, e.g. I walked, she jumped. The verb does not necessarily have this ending (e.g. I ran, she saw); -ed should be seen solely as a mnemonic device, useful mainly in writing RULES succinctly. The -ed ending is, however, also a common form of the past PARTICIPLE (e.g. she has walked), and the potential AMBIGUITY has to be borne in mind.
