According to various accounts, before the migration to Medina (formerly known as Yathrib), the Prophet (s) established a covenant of brotherhood among the Muslims, which was aimed at promoting social justice, a key feature of Islamic governance, and fostering a spirit of solidarity within the emerging Islamic society. Through this covenant, the companions of the Prophet (s) became brothers to one another. As part of this covenant, the Prophet (s) specifically established a bond of brotherhood between himself and Ali bin Abi Talib (a), declaring, “You are my brother in this world and the hereafter.
