Creating the first impression
3:5:49 2023-06-11 387

When we meet a person for the first time, he is keen to make a first impression on us, taking him as a base for the way he treats us later. This initial impression is often derived from apparent and formal matters, but it is very important.

I do not want here to call for artificiality in our relations, but I would like for us to train ourselves to avoid appearances that people hate, and to surprise the other party with things that he does not desire, and this is what Islam disciplines us with.

Our keenness to form a good first impression of us indicates the existence of transparency, as it indicates the horizon that we can rise to. There is talk about what makes one of us fit in the eyes of his brother at first sight, some of which we will mention here:

- Wearing clothes that are appropriate for the situation is very important. The clothes that are worn at weddings and events or important personal interviews are different from those that a person wears for work, marketing or strolls.

- Start your meeting with a smile, and make eye contact between you and the person you meet by looking to his side, not down or to another side, but do not fix your eyes on him; because fixating your gaze may cause embarrassment to the other party.

- Start by shaking hands, and do not remove your hand from the hand of the person you are shaking with until he removes it, according to what is required by custom. The handshake has always been a source of some warmth in the hearts.

- Let us try to renew the words of the greeting. After saying the salutations, one can say instead of (Good evening): (May God bless your evening) or say: (Nice to meet you) instead of (How are you)... These renewals leave an impression on the soul of the listener. , and make him expect something new and useful.

- Try to collect some information about the person you want to meet, and call him by the most beloved name to him, and if he has a scientific title, then address him by it, and try in every case to pronounce his name correctly.
