Water policy of Turkey will kill Iraqi cities due to drought

Parliament member Jawad Al-Ghazali affirmed, on Monday, Iraq's refusal to accept Turkish water grants, expressing his concern about the water scarcity that the center and south suffer from.

Al-Ghazali said in an interview with Al-Maalouma Agency, "The central-south governorates recorded a sharp decline in the water level of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers as a result of Turkey's hostile policy."

He explained that "the drought crisis still exists and needs future plans to invest the water coming from the upstream countries," adding that "Iraq refuses to accept Turkish water donations."

A member of the Parliamentary Agriculture, Water and Marshes Committee, Rafik Al-Salhi, revealed that 90% of water resources were wasted due to old irrigation methods, indicating that the committee presented a future vision for modern irrigation to increase production and rationalize water.
