Effect of Catalysts

A catalyst is a substance which increases the rate of a reaction. When a reaction is reversible, a catalyst increases both the forward and reverse reaction, leaving the equilibrium constant unaffected. Thus addition of a catalyst will cause a reaction to reach equilibrium faster, but it will not affect the position of equilibrium.
