Apart from the phonological similarities between the Fijian and Indo-Fijian varieties of Pure Fiji English as outlined above, there are a number of other shared phonological features. We describe the three most distinct ones here, all of which are characteristic of L2 English. Although the first two characteristics are grammatical features they seem to have phonological causes. Both involve the absence of inflectional suffixes, which appears to be the result of consonant cluster reduction, also noted above.
