Stressed vowels GOOSE

The dominant realization in GOOSE is [u:], although short  is also recorded in certain words, especially tooth. Parry’s map of tooth (1999: 229) shows the short form covering the majority of Wales, with the exception of most of the north and a pocket in the south-west corner. In other GOOSE words used by Parry (goose, hoof, root, stool), the short form is more sporadic.
