Clindamycin

Clindamycin is active against Gram-positive bacteria such as staphylococci, pneu­rnococcl. Streptococcus pyogenes, and against most anaerobes including Bacteroi­des fragilis. it is considered by some to be superior to penicillin in anaerobic pulmonary infections. it is an alternative to metronidazole for anaerobic infections (except those in the CNS), and bacterial vaginosis (topical) in pregnant women. Prin­cipal adverse effects are allergy (rash), antibiotic-associated diarrhoea including pseudomembranous colitis and rarely, hepatotoxicity.
