If a body is thrown vertically downward, its velocity and the space passed over in any time will differ from those of a falling body that starts from a condition of rest. If we let V represent the velocity per second of such a body at the beginning, we may write
Velocity per second at the end of 1 sec. = V + g,
Velocity per second at the end of 2 sec. = V + 2 g,
Velocity per second at the end of 3 sec. = V + 3 g,
Velocity per second at the end of t sec. =V+ t g,
Or v= V + g t,
a formula that differs from Formula 7 only in supposing an initial velocity. An initial velocity makes corresponding changes in Formulas 8 and 9 also, and they become
