Treatment of epilepsy
Case study 1
Debbie suffered from tonic-clonic seizures and was constantly on high levels of medication as the doctors were unable to stabilizes the seizures. This had tremendous side effects on her self-confidence, self-esteem, levels of energy and academic progress. However, after discussing it with Debbies parents, it was felt inappropriate to lower the levels of medication as Debbie was still suffering two or three large seizures a day, causing great concern for her actual physical well-being. In response to this information her educators wrote a new individual program for Debbie focusing on her very individual needs, recognizing she would frequently be very tired and lack the ability to focus for long periods of time.
