Knot Move

An operation on a knot or link diagram which preserves its crossing number. Thistlethwaite used 13 different moves in generating a list of 16-crossing alternating knots (Hoste et al. 1998). While these moves eliminate all duplicate knots up to 13 crossings with only a single exception, there are  duplicates in his list of  16-crossing knots (Hoste et al. 1998).
