What are Reciprocal Pronouns? Grammar Review
Pronouns are words that replace nouns and noun phrases! Reciprocal pronouns are words that express a mutual action or relationship. The reciprocal pronouns are “Each other and One another!” If the pronoun refers to “Two things”, use “Each other”. If the pronoun refers to “More than two” use “One another”. While this might seem a little confusing at first, with practice, you will get the hang of it! Take a look at the examples below. Ask your teacher to further explain the subject of “Reciprocal pronouns!”
“Each Other” Pronoun Examples:
Bob and Terry love each other! (They both feel the same)
They gave each other presents for the holiday! (Two people exchanged gifts)
Do you two respect each other? (Two people)
Both teams challenged each other! (Two teams)
The boys were fighting with each other! (Two boys)
The two cars were competing with each other! (Two cars)
The dogs were fighting with each other! (Two dogs)
Bob and Rene lived with each other! (Two people)
They kissed each other many times! (Two people)
“One Another” Pronoun Examples:
The entire family loves one another! (Everyone feels the same)
The entire team played their best for one another! (They all played well)
I admire the way you help one another at work! (More than two)
They were all blaming one another for the loss! (A team)
All four boys were arguing with one another! (Four people)
