Condon domains

Domains of a different type, unrelated to electron spin, are associated with Landau diamagnetism. When the magnetization exhibits strong de Haas–van Alphen oscillations where the differential susceptibility exceeds a threshold value of 1, the sample will break up into domains magnetized parallel and antiparallel to the applied field, in order to minimize the energy associated with the dipole field.
