In Friday’s Sermon held at the Imam Hussain Shrine on ِAugust 9, 2019, the representative of the Shia Muslim Supreme Religious Authority, Sayid Ahmed Al-Safi, raised some questions Iraqi people frequently ask.
Al-Safi said all segments of Iraqi society have legitimate political, economic, social, and administrative inquiries, but such inquiries no politician has yet responded to.
He added that one of the questions says, “We, as a people, live in Iraq, is there hope and a time frame for our issues to be tackled or not, and why are we always exhausted and suffering? Isn’t it time for us to feel at ease and our basic demands are responded to? How long will this situation remain, and when will our issues end?”
He indicated that politicians – every so often – make empty promises about legislating laws that attend to the needs of people, but nothing has been achieved.
Al-Safi emphasized that Iraqi people love life and want to enjoy it, noting that some Iraqi people who travel abroad notice that counties, whose potentials are less than Iraq’s, enjoy a good life and are compliant with the rules.
Al-Safi wondered why the governmental institutions wouldn’t raise awareness, instill patriotism in people, attract Iraqi finest minds, and resolve the issues because of which Iraqi people began to think of living abroad.
He noted Iraqi people live in fear and are exhausted, not knowing what will happen, especially some media indications nowadays say that Iraq is in danger, and no-one knows when relief comes.
Al-Safi concluded that Iraq is not lacking in natural resources, minds, or space; therefore, it’s important to know the real causes of Iraq’s issues and if there is a conspiracy against it, demanding a realistic answer without slogans.
